James Thie is an international athlete and coach. The UK and Wales middle distance runner has appeared in World, European and Commonwealth games and at 46 he is now a global Masters force as well as an Olympic coach (who was involved in the 2014 event).

World of Words – WOW i.e. www.worldofwords.education invited James to Ton Pentre Junior School. A full school of children aged 7 to 11 years were inspired by tales from a long and lustrous career. James focussed on his own achievements as well as the benefits of sport for its physical and mental credits. He also honed in upon personal goal setting, whether it be small or large, academic or athletic.

The current World Masters 1500m indoor Champion is also the Welsh record holder in the Indoor 1500m. In the recent New York Marathon running for the prestigious Big Apple City club James came an incredible 300th out of 60,000 starters – and, the incredible fact is that his favourite home training location is the acclaimed track in Tonypandy.
