www.worldofwords.education i.e. World of Words (WOW) is a non-profit, self-fundraised social enterprise that builds self-esteem and confidence among primary school children in the RCT. The core of literacy has been a success in developing well-being among youngsters in an impoverished region of the UK which is often overlooked.
Over 4000 young people have passed through the ranks of WOW and there have been a variety of plaudits from the pupils, parents, teachers and the media. The introduction of a range of role models has aided the cause and a rewards programme has seen many families attend free events ranging from international sport through to pantomimes and visits to cultural centres.
Fundraising has taken on many forms from a sky dive to a river swim to a cycle ride from France to Wales – but this help has been essential to our helping others. WOW cares, shares and dares! ‘Life is a test, just try your best’ is our mantra and as as one child said to WOW – ‘thanks for not giving upon me’. That is a testament indeed.
